Earlier this year we headed off to Mauritius for a little break to celebrate Dylan’s parents 40th wedding anniversary.
This year has been a special year for both our families welcoming new babies on both sides, our parents reaching this milestone in their love story and getting to celebrate with them all in such a special place.
We travelled so much over the past 18 months, this was the first trip we had actually not planned for work, so we were excited to just enjoy it.
But as always when you arrive is such a beautiful place and the light is as beautiful as it is in Mauritius, your photographer brain and shutter clicking finger starts looking for beautiful things to aim your camera at.
Bianca & Dave were close to welcoming their second baby girl into the world so we documented a piece of their story in this beautiful place that will forever be etched in our hearts now.
If you ever get a chance to visit Mauritius, we can recommend a beautiful private villa near Grand-Baie, where we stayed, which really made it a trip to remember!
With our second baby on its way, we talk a lot about how to balance work and family life.
Its amazing how when you don’t have a family, a passion or a job can mean so much to you, who you are and what makes you, YOU.
For so long much of our purpose and self worth was wrapped up in being good at what we do.
Don’t get me wrong, we still love what we do and its important to us to be really great at it. I often hear people talk about chasing their dreams and working hard to achieve them! Maybe we should realize we are all just human and doing our best in all aspects of our lives is all we can expect from ourselves, and in the end what really matters is how we loved others and how others loved us!
If you had asked me a year or two ago if we like shooting newborn, pregnancy or family shoots I would probably would have said I don’t mind them. But since we’ve been through this process ourselves, having a family that is, its fast becoming one of my favorite type of shoots to do.
Although we do love shooting weddings, we’re always so sad to run into previous brides or grooms to hear their marriages didn’t make it and they’re no longer married. The world puts so much pressure to have a show stopper wedding, we often forget its the marriage that really counts.
So of late when we get invited to shoot these beautiful milestones in our clients lives, we’re so grateful that they’ve seen the need to document these big moments, like the starting of a family. I think these shoots are a beautiful way to celebrate a couple being able to withstand the storms of life. After all its a beautiful thing to be able to chose those you want to call family and stick by them no matter what life throws your way.
It’s always a privilege when we are allowed to tell someones story over several years. Eris + Michael invited us to go shoot their wedding on the island of Mykonos in 2013, which we did and had one of the best shoots when we were there. We were so happy when they popped into the studio last week on a quick visit from London.
To add this chapter to their life’s story. 30 weeks and counting, Eris you look amazing and we wish you guys all the best for this adventure you’re about to embark on. Nothing will prepare you for parenthood and nothing will ever mean so much. Documenting the big moments in your life can be woven together to create one big story.
Both sets of our parents have health issues that are fast becoming more of a concern everyday. It reminds us how important it is to get beautiful images taken that will form a legacy for our son and maybe daughters to come. Our new goal for the coming year is to get beautiful images of those closest to us, while we still can. When last have you had a family shoot done?
