It’s not everyday we get to shoot things that are a little out of the ordinary or work with a bride that is willing to take some risks when it comes to colours and patterns. So when WEDDING CONCEPTS sent over the moodboard of this styled shoot, we were excited to be a part of this vibrant, sophisticated and super modern shoot. I am a pastels kinda girl but I love how edgy this shoot came out.
Various wedding trends come and go but colour palettes never really seem to change or evolve. The WEDDING CONCEPTS creative team wanted to present a new exciting range of colours for spring and summer weddings. An alternative modern, on-trend palette that was not typical of the wedding industry. I think they succeeded

After 8 years in the industry we finally hosted our first wedding photography workshop!
We’ve been hosting TYMEOUT workshops for beginners for some time now.
We’ve presented at several big photography expos but for some reason the idea of teaching our peers for two days was way more scary.
We’ve always felt that until we had ‘earned our stripes’, we would refrain from telling others how to earn theirs.
Now over 400 Weddings later, international destination weddings under our belt, hundreds of late nights and many beads of sweat later we decided to share what we’ve learnt along the way over the past 10 years at this 2 day WEDDING WORKSHOP.
Our industry is so full of talented people! There’s so much information on photography out there and the accessibility to helpful tools make it much easier for photographers to reach professional status relatively quickly. Many creatives still struggle however with running a sustainable business doing what they love. This workshop was aimed to help with this.
‘The Art of Business’
We spoke about the value of your website, social media, wedding expos and working with other service providers. We then had a Skype interview with Kate from WEDDING CONCEPTS to talk about how to work with wedding co-ordinators and commissions.
This workshop wouldn’t have been possible without the amazing sponsors we were so grateful to work with.
We wanted to give the students the opportunity to shoot beautiful things that they won’t always get to shoot at a real wedding and to work with professional models to help them learn the importance of body language and posing. We chose to host the workshop in our very own natural light studio and then headed out to MORRELLS for our location shoot where we could take advantage of the soft afternoon light.
You may not know this but when we started shooting we learnt to shoot full manual mode on film, we even had a little darkroom setup at home. YES it was a good place to make out when we were dating;-) but this is where our love for photography and each other really made deep roots in our hearts.
We’ve realized along the way that staying inspired throughout a big season is always a challenge.
Shooting film can be a great way to keep your passion going. Shoot for yourself, shoot because you love this art form, shoot because its your culture!
We invited our crazy friends, Seth and Tenielle from FEATHER AND STONE to talk to the students a bit about why they shoot film and what film can do for you as a shooter.
Thank you to everyone for making this workshop such a success. We had the best time with you in our space, learning and growing together.
We are looking forward to watching your businesses reach new heights over the next few months and years.
Now we are super excited to host the next one;-)
It’s crazy but after 7 years in the industry, at the start of this year we realized despite good intentions of styling and shooting something we love, we still had not quite got around to it. So when our friends over at Ganico told us that they were about to harvest their organic pomegranate crop our creative cogs started turning.
We have always believed: “shoot what you love and it will come back to you”. Life happens however and bills need to be paid, we don’t always get the luxury to just PLAY! The winter months in Johannesburg can be a challenge for any creative, but when we saw the colours of the farm, we knew this shoot would be awesome!
We just loved the colour, diversity and texture of this shoot. The change of season from summer to winter left the pomegranate trees this amazing yellow! Combined with the organic touches of herbs, wood and decadent food, it was everything we love about autumn all in one.
Throw in a donkey, whats not to love!
Ganico is a boutique Organic Pomegranate farm operating out of Muldersdrift. This farm is a family run business and they are passionate about what they do.
We might be biased but we are yet to taste sweeter, juicier pomegrates oozing flavour!
If you are ever in the area, pop in and say hello.
