L + W’s Destination Weddding
These two beauties chose the island of Mykonos to tie the knot in June this year. We were the lucky bums they chose to make the great trek to document their story. Shooting in Greece is always such a treat with its crisp blue skies and clean white light, not to mention a few of our favorites like grilled octopus and a gyros at every turn.
We often get questions about how we manage to travel for work with our 16 month old son while still maintaining our professionalism.
Truth is it wouldn’t be possible if we didn’t have an amazing support structure of family and friends aswell as systems in place to make it possible.
For the first few months of his life, we would take our son with to most weddings, without it disrupting our work. We always arranged beforehand with the venue that we could have a spare room where our nanny or family member could babysit. This allowed us to check on him from time to time and helped for our own peace of mind.
Surprisingly most venues were very understanding of the fact that I was breastfeeding so they were more than willing to help. Most times no one even knew he was there. It helped us to be focused on the day and not constantly worried about leaving our hearts at home. Now that he is older and we are more comfortable he stays at home for local weddings.
As we head off to the mountains today for this weekends Drakensberg wedding with our son coming along as always, it reminds us that this is a life we chose and its allows us to do things we wouldn’t ordinarily do and spend endless hours seeing places we wouldn’t necessarily get to see so regularly if it wasn’t for the beautiful gift of travel.
