Our Gender Neutral toddler Room

July 8, 2020

Since lockdown hit earlier this year, we have all spent a lot more time in our homes. Since moving from Johannesburg to the coast last year, and traveling on a weekly basis we didn’t spend a lot of time in our beach cottage. Not enough for it to irritate us;-) but since we’ve been home for weeks and weeks on end and we now work, school and play all in the same space it became more and more important to us to get our little beach cottage to work well for our families changing circumstances.

We shuffled the kids room around so that we could home school, play, store all our things and enjoy the space together.

Without wanting to spend a lot of money, we did the whole room ourselves! We converted our pine beds into a bunk bed to free up some floor space. found some nice storage options, threw out a lot of unused stuff, added a nice table for the kids to home school at and added some sentimental touches, things that we’ve collected through our travels, gifts and hand me downs that make up their heritage.

The best part of redoing this space has been seeing the kids enjoying the space as much as we had hoped they would! Seeing how its given our days more structure and them a space to be proud of and happy in has been the biggest joy.

These are all the local South African brands we made use of for this project, for those that have asked:
